What is the 12 Axes test?

It is a free political quiz that scores your views on twelve separate axes, grouped into government, world affairs, economy and society. It grew out of the 8values and 9axes quizzes and adds axes for trade, immigration, religion and technology.

How many questions are there?

The quick test has 60 statements, five per axis, and takes about six minutes. The full test has all 288 statements, 24 per axis, and takes about 25 minutes. The full version gives steadier scores.

How are the scores calculated?

Every statement belongs to one axis and leans toward one of its two ends. Agreeing moves you toward that end and disagreeing moves you away; "strongly" counts twice as much as a plain answer and "somewhat" half as much. Each axis is then shown as a percentage between its two ends.

How is my closest ideology chosen?

Each of the 38 ideologies has a position on Economy, Power, Diplomacy and Culture. We compare your scores on those four axes and rank the ideologies by how close they are. The other eight axes are shown on their own because the ideology list does not define positions for them.

Is this the official 12Axes quiz?

No. The statements come from the open-source 12Axes quiz, published under the MIT licence, and we credit it on our credits page. This site rebuilds the experience with a faster, mobile-friendly design, saved progress, shareable result images and explanations of every axis.

No account is needed and your answers never leave your browser. Progress is saved in your browser so you can come back later, and your result lives entirely in the link you share.

What is the difference between 12 Axes and 8values?

Accepted Answer

8values places you on four axes: economic, diplomatic, civil and societal. 12 Axes splits these up further, for example separating ownership from regulation and trade from diplomacy, and adds religion, immigration, structure of government and technology.
