- State SocialismThe state owns and directs the main industries and services and uses that control to deliver equality and full employment.
- De LeonismA Marxist strategy from Daniel De Leon: win socialism through elections while industrial unions take over the workplaces, so that the unions replace the old political state as the new form of government.
- Democratic SocialismWants to replace much of capitalism with social ownership, but only through elections, a free press and democratic institutions, never through revolution or a one-party state.
- Left-Wing PopulismFrames politics as ordinary people against a wealthy elite, and calls for redistribution, strong public services and curbs on big business and finance.
